Internet Filtering & Student Safety

Are student Chromebooks filtered at school and at home?

Yes. District-issued Chromebooks use content filtering software both on and off campus. While filtering systems are designed to block inappropriate or harmful content, no filtering technology can guarantee that every inappropriate website or resource will be blocked.

Liberty Hill ISD also emphasizes digital citizenship and internet safety education so students learn to navigate digital environments safely, responsibly and effectively.

Who decides what content is filtered?

The Children's Internet Protection Act requires school districts receiving certain federal E-rate support to maintain internet safety protections addressing obscene content, child pornography and material harmful to minors.

In Liberty Hill ISD, websites submitted for review are evaluated based on factors including instructional value, age appropriateness and potential for misuse. The district's goal is to provide a safe learning environment while preserving access to appropriate educational resources.

What happens if a student accesses an inappropriate site?

Inappropriate internet use is addressed in accordance with the Liberty Hill ISD Student Code of Conduct. Depending on the circumstances, disciplinary consequences may apply. The district also uses these situations as opportunities to reinforce responsible, ethical and productive technology use.
