What to Do After a Work-Related Injury

If you experience a work-related injury, begin with these steps. The complete process is outlined in the LHISD Workers' Comp Process below.

1

Report the Injury

Report the injury to your school nurse and supervisor as soon as possible.

2

Complete the WC Packet

Complete the required Workers' Compensation packet, including the First Report of Injury and HIPAA form.

3

Submit Documentation

Send the required forms and any applicable medical or work-status documentation to the Workers' Compensation Department.

Please Report Injuries Promptly

Work-related injuries should be reported and the required District documentation completed as soon as possible. Prompt reporting helps ensure the claim and any needed medical care can be addressed without unnecessary delay.

LHISD Workers' Comp Process

The process depends on whether the injury can be treated by the school nurse or requires additional medical attention. Use the LHISD Workers' Comp Process for the complete step-by-step procedure.

Work-Related Injury Process

Review this process after any work-related injury. It includes reporting requirements, medical treatment procedures, documentation, and return-to-work requirements.

The Workers' Comp Process includes separate instructions for injuries treated by the school nurse and injuries requiring medical attention, along with requirements for work releases, restrictions, and return to work.

Work Release & Restrictions

If you receive medical treatment for a work-related injury, provide all required work-status documentation to the Workers' Compensation Department.

Employees returning with restrictions must provide the applicable DWC-73 or other required work-status documentation. Liberty Hill ISD will review work restrictions and determine whether they can be accommodated.

Continue all required follow-up medical appointments and provide updated work-status documentation until you are fully released to return to work without restrictions.

Workers' Compensation & Leave

Workers' Compensation Is Not a Form of Leave

Workers' compensation provides benefits related to a qualifying work-related injury or illness, but workers' compensation itself is not a form of job-protected leave.

An absence resulting from a work-related injury or illness may also qualify for FMLA, Temporary Disability Leave, assault leave, or another applicable leave or employment protection. When applicable, these protections may run concurrently with a workers' compensation absence.

If your work-related injury will cause you to miss work beyond the date of injury, contact the appropriate District department regarding any additional leave requirements that may apply.

District Policies
